Home Affairs Minister Inspects BSPS Programme in Tanjung Ria Fishing Village After Skouw Visit
Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian inspected the implementation of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme in the fishing village of Tanjung Ria, North Jayapura District, Jayapura City, Papua. Tito stated that the programme still requires spatial planning and environmental quality improvements. During the visit, Tito engaged directly with residents about the conditions of the settlement in the area. In addition to discussions with the community, Tito also observed the infrastructure conditions on site. He noted vulnerable road access, fragile house structures, limited sanitation access, and several public facilities requiring attention. Waste management also posed a challenge, as it has the potential to trigger waterlogging during the rainy season. ‘We also saw that there are no adequate water channels. There is a pump, a pipe pump, for drinking water, but it is not evenly distributed. It does not reach all the houses,’ Tito said in a written statement on Monday (22/6/2026). Observing these conditions, Tito said the government, through the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, will carry out various infrastructure improvements. These efforts include house repairs, road access, and sanitation facilities. ‘It is hoped that with this development, this village, Tanjung Ria, will be more liveable. Obviously, everyone will be happier,’ Tito said. Tito emphasised that President Prabowo Subianto has significant concern for ordinary people. This is reflected in various programmes distributed to the community, one of which is the three-million-house development programme run under the coordination of Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait. Therefore, Tito appreciated the various innovations made by Maruarar in realising the public housing programme. One such innovation is the implementation of an open tender system for BSPS recipient groups. ‘The Housing Minister, Mr Maruarar Sirait, is very careful to ensure the budget is not corrupted. That is why contractors are not simply assigned to build,’ Tito said. ‘He builds by tender. He calls the shops selling materials, holds a tender, and whoever is cheapest with good quality, witnessed by the community,’ he continued. The event was also attended by the Head of Statistics Indonesia Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Governor of Papua Mathius D Fakhiri, Mayor of Jayapura Abisai Rollo, and several officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas.
