Home Affairs Minister Calls for Strengthened One Data Indonesia System to Prevent Hacking

Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian has expressed support for the One Data Indonesia policy under the National Development Planning Agency. The House of Representatives is currently deliberating the draft law on One Data Indonesia. Tito also stated his readiness to integrate data managed by his ministry. However, the former National Police chief requested that the One Data Indonesia technology system be strengthened to prevent it from being easily hacked. “The most crucial aspect is cyber security,” he said during a plenary meeting between the House Legislation Body, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions on the drafting of the One Data Indonesia Bill in Jakarta, Thursday, 9 July 2026. According to him, data managers must protect citizens’ data. This obligation is also stipulated in the Personal Data Protection Law. Data managers risk legal consequences if a data leak occurs. “If the manager is incapable and data leaks, there will be legal risks. Therefore, the infrastructure must be truly robust,” he said. In addition, Tito stated that the technology system needs to strengthen storage capacity and bandwidth to prevent information traffic congestion. Regarding integration, Tito said the Ministry of Home Affairs has already established a memorandum of understanding with the National Development Planning Agency. However, this policy has so far lacked a legal umbrella at the level of a law. “For example, regarding financial matters at the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Regional Government Information System which records regional budgets, expenditure revenues, and locally-generated revenue. Meanwhile, for planning systems, there is KRISNA at Bappenas and SAKTI for finance. We have integrated them to avoid sectoral egos or data gaps,” he said. Chairman of the House Legislation Body Bob Hasan emphasised that the One Data Indonesia Bill is designed to realise integrated, accurate, and valid data governance as a basis for development planning.
