Home Affairs Minister Calls BSPS Programme a Noble Initiative to Assist Underprivileged Communities
Home Affairs Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian has expressed appreciation for the housing programmes implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), including the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme. He views these programmes as beneficial to society, particularly for underprivileged communities.
“Therefore, I am fully committed to supporting him (the Minister of PKP), yes. And not only that, because for me, there is something else that is important. My duty as Mendagri is to guide local governments, including supporting regional heads [in succeeding with the three million houses programme],” Tito stated in his remarks on Monday (30/3/2026).
Tito conveyed this during the National Launch of the BSPS Programme for the 2026 Fiscal Year and Collaboration on Housing Financing Programmes and People’s Economic Empowerment with the Ministry of PKP - BP Tapera - Tangerang Regency Government - BRI - PNM - SMF at the Tigaraksa Multi-Purpose Hall (GSG), Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Monday (30/3).
In particular, Tito also commended Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait for her contributions to low-income citizens through housing programmes. He noted that the three million houses programme is an initiative of President Prabowo Subianto for underprivileged communities. This programme has been widely realised across regions in Indonesia.
Furthermore, Tito explained that the existence of such housing programmes represents the state’s presence for the people. In addition to providing opportunities for citizens to obtain decent housing, the programme also generates multiplier effects for the economic ecosystem, particularly in the micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) sector.
“Our material businesses will thrive. Banks will gain new clients and customers, money will circulate. All UMKM will move because of housing activities,” he added.
On that occasion, Tito explained that one indicator of a regional head’s success is the ability to reduce poverty rates in their area. This can be achieved, among other ways, by supporting the three million houses programme. Moreover, the housing sector is one of the basic needs required by the people.
On the other hand, Tito also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the success of the three million houses programme in the regions. Together with the Minister of PKP, Tito affirmed that they will continue to oversee the realisation of the programme so that it can be felt by the community.
“The housing programme [needs to be embraced by] regional heads so that what? So that the regional heads can also succeed. Our collaboration, besides solving problems, will also contribute to Indonesia and this is worship to the Almighty God,” he concluded.
