JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Home Affairs Minister (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian conveyed his apologies to the members of Commission II of the DPR for having missed five invitations to attend meetings in person on previous occasions.

“On this blessed occasion, I humbly seek forgiveness for any shortcomings. In particular, for any displeasure that may have arisen, related to my five instances of not attending—I had absolutely no intention of disrespecting or undervaluing Commission II of the DPR,” Tito stated at the opening of his presentation during the Commission II meeting at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday (30/3/2026).

However, he acknowledged that on several occasions, he was unable to attend because the invitations from Commission II of the DPR were too sudden.

“And then the commission’s events coincided with presidential activities that I had to attend, for example, the People’s School in Bekasi, where the role of the Home Affairs Ministry is very important, and only a few ministers were invited there, besides the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, because the Home Affairs Ministry also plays a role in the People’s School,” he continued.

“At that time, I had almost certainly been travelling for three or four days in a week around Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, until I was appointed as the task force head,” he said.

Therefore, invitations from Commission II of the DPR were often only received by Tito from his staff two days before the meeting, which he considered too short a notice.

“I received the hearing invitation via WhatsApp from my staff, conveying it two days before the event started. I received it on Saturday for Monday, even though I was in the middle of the forest at the time. I believe you understand well the situation in Aceh, the terrain in North Sumatra and West Sumatra,” he explained.

As a result, he often requested to postpone the meetings or sought permission not to attend from the leadership of Commission II of the DPR.

However, despite missing the Commission II DPR meetings, Tito always instructed three of his deputy ministers to attend the meetings.

“So, it doesn’t mean I don’t value or respect it, let alone to avoid it—no. I have always attended Commission II events so far,” he said.

“So once again, we apologise for any displeasing matters. I had absolutely no intention of not valuing it,” he added.

During the same meeting, the Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI, Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, also briefly mentioned Tito’s recent absences.
