Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has expressed his determination to support the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census. He also encouraged all governors and deputy governors across Tanah Papua to back the initiative. The support was conveyed following a meeting with all governors and deputy governors of Tanah Papua at the Papua State Building in Jayapura City on Monday (22/6). According to Tito, the 2026 Economic Census programme will provide many benefits for the regions, particularly in Tanah Papua. “I respectfully request that we support the Economic Census conducted by BPS in Indonesia, especially in Greater Papua,” said Tito. Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, revealed that from 15 June to 31 August 2026, BPS will conduct the 2026 Economic Census simultaneously across Indonesia. The data collection targets economic activities and the socio-economic conditions of families and households nationwide. “Therefore, we from BPS request support from the Home Affairs Minister and the regional heads, especially in Tanah Papua, so that we can work together to make the 2026 Economic Census a success,” said Amalia. In response, all regional heads across Tanah Papua unanimously expressed their readiness to support the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census. Support was conveyed directly by Papua Governor Mathius D. Fakhiri, West Papua Deputy Governor Mohamad Lakotani, Papua Pegunungan Governor John Tabo, and Southwest Papua Deputy Governor Ahmad Nausrau. “On behalf of the Southwest Papua Provincial Government, we are ready to support the 2026 Economic Census,” said Ahmad Nausrau. Minister Tito has, on various occasions, invited regional heads to support the 2026 Economic Census. This commitment was realised, among other ways, through the signing of a Joint Circular with the Head of BPS on Monday (15/6). Through this effort, it is hoped the government will obtain accurate data on economic conditions, which will subsequently be used as a basis for policy formulation. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Home Affairs Minister Ribka Haluk, several high-ranking officials within the Ministry of Home Affairs, as well as officials from BPS and Papua Province.
