Niken Tomsi Tohir, Chair of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), has urged all members to develop their creativity as one way of strengthening family economic independence. According to her, various works of art that begin as hobbies can be turned into commercially valuable products with the potential to add to household income.

She made these remarks at a decoupage technique training session on shoes, themed “Through Art Craft Training, We Enhance the Creativity and Economic Independence of the DWP of the Ministry of Home Affairs”, held at the Institute of Internal Governance (IPDN) campus in Cilandak, Jakarta, today.

“Hopefully, what we are undertaking this morning will broaden the knowledge of all the members and can add to their income when they later make these items themselves at home,” she said in a written statement on Thursday (23 July 2026).

Niken explained that the decoupage technique is a form of handicraft that is easy to learn and does not require substantial production costs. According to her, the materials used are relatively affordable and easy to obtain, ranging from shoes produced by local artisans to supplies such as patterned tissue paper and glue available in various shops as well as on marketplace platforms.

She added that the works produced in the training not only carry aesthetic value and economic potential, but will also be used as part of the DWP members’ togetherness in welcoming the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

“The hope is that we can wear the shoes during our 17 August activities,” she said.

Niken expressed hope that the spirit of creativity will continue to grow within the DWP of the Ministry of Home Affairs, so that it can produce creative works that benefit families while bringing pride to the nation.

“Hopefully this art craft training brings benefits and produces works that make the nation proud,” she concluded.
