Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Director General of Regional Administration (Adwil) at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safrizal Zakaria Ali, has affirmed that the Indonesia ASRI movement must be realised as concrete action through the involvement of the entire local government apparatus down to the level of neighbourhood and community units (RT/RW) and villages.

“This movement is not merely a slogan or a ceremonial gesture, but must become a real movement. I ask regional heads to issue instructions to all levels. Launch the clean-up movement starting from RT/RW through to villages and all regional apparatus. Provide education and set a good example for the community,” said Safrizal in his statement in Jakarta on Friday.

The Indonesia ASRI movement is a follow-up to President Prabowo’s instructions, first declared at the National Coordination Meeting of Central and Regional Governments at the start of 2026.

ASRI stands for Aman, Sehat, Resik, Indah (Safe, Healthy, Clean and Beautiful). Safe in the context of Healthy; clean in waste management, clean toilets and orderly billboard arrangement; and clean and beautiful environments in all aspects.

This is a strategic step to address current challenges, particularly the problems of waste, public toilet hygiene and billboard disorder, which can disrupt public order in a region.

Safrizal revealed that he had carried out this movement since serving as Acting Governor of South Kalimantan, planting more than one million trees. He did likewise when serving as Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung and Acting Governor of Aceh.

“We are rebranding Satpol PP with a humane concept as helpers of the community. Its main task is enforcing regional regulations, but it must do so in a humane way, not repressively, let alone clashing with the public. Regional heads must ensure Satpol PP becomes a friend, protector and servant of the people,” asserted Safrizal.

The commitment of regional heads nationally was represented by the Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, who underscored that the role of local governments is crucial to realising President Prabowo’s vision.

A series of Call to Action Indonesia Asri events included a blood donation drive, a cheap market, and awards presented to the Deputy Mayor of Malang and environmental activists, as well as assistance in the form of civil defence uniforms, cleaning equipment, and the distribution of death benefits to members of the Malang City civil defence corps (Satlinmas).

The event was attended by the Mayor of Malang, Wahyu Hidayat, the Deputy Regent of Malang, Lathifah Sohib, the regional leadership communication forum (forkompimda) across Greater Malang, and regional heads from across Indonesia virtually.
