Holland's Detron enters Indonesia
JAKARTA (JP): Detron Telecommunications of the Netherlands
will expand its business into Indonesia in an effort to gain a
slice of the lucrative and rapid growing telecommunications
industry in the country.
Detron's executive Simon van den Dries told The Jakarta Post
here yesterday that the development in both fixed and mobile
telecommunications provide opportunities for companies like
Detron, which offers a "one-stop-shopping" service for
telecommunications firms.
He said that Detron offers telecommunications and
communications services, telecommunications training and
recruitment.
"We offer Odyssey, a radio and network planning system which
will support cellular operators and predict best locations for
radio base stations," he said.
Detron's chief representative for its Beijing office,
Boudewijn Pesch, said his company targets three major potential
customers, including telecommunications operators, equipment
vendors and large telecommunications users like hotels and other
businesses applying large-scale telecommunications systems.
"We have contacts with three major operators in Indonesia: PT
Telkomsel, PT Satelindo and PT Indosat. We expect to have
contracts with the companies after we begin operation next
January," he said.
Detron was set up in April 1991 following the acquisition of a
local engineering company which had a parent company in Vegel,
the Netherlands. The company runs several business units
including telecommunications, electronic engineering, mechanical
engineering, consulting engineers and interim technology.
In Indonesia, Detron also runs PhoneRent, a company which
offers daily rentals of mobile cellular handsets, laptops and
facsimile. (icn)
