Holland gives $22m grant to Indonesia

JAKARTA: The Netherlands recently gave Indonesia a US$22 million grant to improve the country's water and sanitation facilities, the Royal Dutch Embassy said last week.

With the grant, Holland will establish the Dutch Water and Sanitation Trust Fund to support the Indonesian government and other stakeholders in addressing the structural deficiencies in the water and sanitation sector.

"The substantial grant aims to strengthen the institutions responsible for service delivery, and to thereby increase the levels of water and sanitation services for all, especially the poor," the embassy said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post .

The grant will also help Indonesia in its efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by the target date of 2015. -- JP
