Holidays and SEA Games
Holidays and SEA Games
From Republika
I am a high school student in Bandung and need to know the
truth of the rumor that the holidays of the current semester will
take place before the exams. We are thus forced to enjoy
leisurely days before the exams. My teachers have no explanation
on the matter.
The rumor is that the holidays have been rescheduled because
certain sides hope that students will watch the Southeast Asian
Games.
I think it is unreasonable that our brains should be made non-
active for one week and then forced to work in high gear. Can we
remain idle in the week before the exams? Inevitably we will pass
the time with studies and revision tests. What about our holidays
then?
If the sports event is the reason, I think it is foolish and
childish to victimize us. We have the right to rest our brains.
Our duties in school are not as light as certain people might
think. We have to compete, to join extra-curricular activities,
to do our homework, etc. It is not limited to brawls, money
spending sprees and whiling away time.
It is important to watch the SEA Games, but please do not
arbitrarily change school schedules.
If the events are attractive, we are willing to attend. But
interfering with the school schedule is not appropriate.
With great concern I ask the responsible parties to explain
the situation. I am sure that the people in authority do not take
unilateral decisions. They should imagine themselves in our
place.
