Holiday Travellers Benefit from 30 Percent Mudik Ticket Discount Programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A resident of Senen, Central Jakarta, Khaidir, is experiencing the benefits of the government’s 30 percent discount on tickets for this year’s Lebaran transportation services. “There’s no money because the economy isn’t good yet, but we still want to go home, so we’re taking advantage of this programme,” he said at the Tanjung Priok Passenger Terminal, North Jakarta, on Wednesday. He mentioned that the usual Pelni ship ticket from Tanjung Priok to Ambon costs Rp892,000, but on Wednesday, he bought it for only Rp590,000. “We’re greatly helped by this discount,” he said. This man, who lives in the Senen area, admitted to routinely returning to his hometown every year, but this year he chose to travel by sea. He said the journey to Ambon usually takes four days, and he might only arrive in Makassar by Lebaran. “I enjoy the sea voyage more,” he said. Previously, a resident of Rusun Muara Baru, Harianti, also admitted to utilising the 30 percent discount programme to bring her large family home to Makassar. “I’m leaving today, 30 people and that’s my family. We’re helped by these cheap tickets,” she said. According to her, compared to plane tickets which can reach over Rp2 million per person, sea transportation has become the choice. “This price is cheaper and we’re comfortable mudik this way,” she said. Previously, the number of passengers for PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) during the peak mudik flow this year reached 28,000 people. “Today is the peak mudik flow with 28,078 passengers scheduled to travel using Pelni ships,” said PT Pelni President Director Tri Andayani. “Meanwhile, the total passengers from 6 March 2026 to 18 March 2026 has reached 253,208 people,” she said.
