Holiday to Kampung Main presents educational entertainment during school break
The Ministry of Tourism, together with Wonderful Indonesia co-branding partners, is running an online and offline programme called ‘Liburan ke Kampung Main’ to provide educational entertainment during the school holidays. ‘Through Liburan ke Kampung Main, we want to offer a school holiday experience that is not only entertaining but also educational,’ said Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, in a ministry press release confirmed in Jakarta on Friday. ‘Children can experience first-hand the atmosphere of Kampung Main as a space rich in culture, local wisdom, and sustainability values.’
Made said the programme is part of a campaign to encourage people to travel #DiIndonesiaAja while introducing tourist villages to children. Through the programme, the ministry is promoting Indonesian tourist destinations through play-based learning activities. The public can also visit the Wonderful Indonesia Co-Branding Kampung Main at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in East Jakarta from 1 to 5 July 2026 and take part in educational games and interactive workshops. The games and workshops during the programme will be held daily with different themes, including gastronomy, culture, maritime, textiles, art and design, and fitness.
Among the games is Petualangan Jagung, which allows children to learn about the process of turning agricultural produce from the farm into food. There is also a digital scavenger hunt that invites participants to complete various challenges while getting to know iconic Indonesian tourist destinations. The online game can be accessed from 22 June to 5 July 2026 at several tourist spots. For those unable to visit TMII, the scavenger hunt can also be enjoyed at Wonderful Indonesia co-branding partner destinations in the regions, such as HeHa Waterfall Bogor, HeHa Forest Sleman, Plaza Ambarrukmo and Plaza Malioboro Yogyakarta, Pramana Craft and Van Bloemen 1881 Sleman, as well as Jatim Park Malang. Visitors simply need to scan the QR code available at these locations to start the online game, which invites participants to explore various regional icons on a #DiIndonesiaAja tourism journey. Through enjoyable hands-on experiences, children will more easily understand the importance of preserving nature and respecting the traditions and culture of each tourist destination.
‘We hope children will grow up to be a generation that supports the development of tourist villages and is inspired that #DiIndonesiaAja is a fun holiday choice to enjoy with family,’ she said. The programme targets children, who are seen as future tourists and agents of change in Indonesia’s tourism sector.
