Holiday Returnees Urged to Return Promptly, Secondary Return Peak Predicted for 28-29 March
Bekasi, Kompas.com – Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, has urged the public not to delay their return home after the Eid al-Fitr homecoming in 2026. This appeal follows predictions of a secondary return peak expected on 28–29 March 2026. “We also urge the public not to pile up at the end of this holiday. We hope the public will start the return flow as soon as possible, especially starting today, tomorrow, and the day after,” Pratikno said when met at the Jasa Marga Toll Road Command Centre on Wednesday (25/3/2026). Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi reported an increase in public transport movements during the Eid homecoming and return period in 2026. “From H-8 to H+3, there was an increase of 4.07 percent,” Dudy said. He also noted that passenger departure movements experienced an even higher rise. “Passenger departure movements reached 11.11 percent. This figure is still dynamic as we will calculate up to 29 March,” he stated. The Ministry of Transportation predicts the return peak will still occur in the coming days, particularly on 28 and 29 March 2026. Therefore, the public is asked to take advantage of various government policies prepared to alleviate congestion. “We hope the public can utilise work-from-home policies as well as the toll fare discount applied on 26 and 27 March at 20 percent,” Dudy said.
