Holiday allowance made mandatory

SEMARANG, Central Java: Governor Soewardi has ordered all
regents across the province to see to it that all companies in
their regions pay Idul Fitri holiday allowances to their
employees.

"Holiday allowance is mandatory. It's a way to improve worker
well-being," Soewardi told The Jakarta Post on Saturday. He added
he would not dictate how much the allowance that a company must
pay. "But an allowance must be given."

He said he realized that prices are going up ahead of the
March 3-4 Idul Fitri holidays and called for the people to
celebrate them modestly. (har)
