Holes in Bridges Along Denpasar-Gilimanuk Road Receive Temporary Patching

The condition of two bridges on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk route, namely Meluang Bridge and Paya Bridge in Selemadeg District, Tabanan, has alarmed motorists. Several holes with considerably large diameters have appeared at the bridge joints. The Tukad Meluang Bridge in Banjar Dinas Soka, Selemadeg District, has been a particular cause for concern. There are several holes, with one reportedly the size of an adult’s fist. Before official action was taken, bamboo poles were planted in the holes to warn road users. When confirmed on Thursday, Project Commitment Officer 1.2 for Bali Province, I Made Mardita, stated that his team had carried out temporary treatment by patching the road. ‘The holes are located on the longitudinal and transverse joints of the bridge, caused by damage to the bridge’s expansion joints,’ Mardita explained. He said the condition was quite alarming and could endanger motorists, prompting the National Road Agency to plan large-scale repairs. ‘These are the parts we will replace later, and we are currently still waiting for the arrival of materials,’ Mardita added. In addition to surface repairs, the agency is also carrying out work on the bridge’s substructure. The Meluang Bridge spans 25.6 metres, whilst the Payan Bridge measures 38.4 metres. ‘Bridge repairs are currently still in process,’ he concluded.
