Holcim holds $2m construction contest

JAKARTA: Swiss-based Holcim Foundation has invited architects, planners, engineers and project owners in Asia to enter the US$2 million Holcim Awards, a competition for projects in the area of sustainable construction.

The world's largest cash-prized sustainable construction contest will be staged by the Holcim Foundation, an independent initiative of Holcim Ltd., one of the world's leading suppliers of cement, aggregates (gravel and sand) and concrete.

Holcim executive committee member Paul Hugentobler said the competition was an opportunity for those involved in sustainable construction to be recognized and present innovative ideas to a wider audience, according to a release received by The Jakarta Post.

"We see the Holcim Foundation as a long-term opportunity to make tangible advances in sustainable development that creates further value, not only for the cement industry but also for society as a whole," he said.

Sustainable construction projects can be submitted for the awards up to March 31, 2005 via www.holcimawards.org.

The Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction was established in Switzerland in 2003, at the initiative of Holcim Ltd., which has group companies and affiliates in more than 70 countries, including Indonesia.--JP
