Hokuriku to buy RI coal
TOKYO (Reuter): Hokuriku Electric Power Co Inc said yesterday
that it had agreed to purchase an annual 120,000 tons of coal
from Indonesia's P.T. Adaro Indonesia between 1998 and 2001.
A Hokuriku spokesman said he believed it was the first time
for a Japanese power utility to conclude a long-term contract
with the Indonesian company.
The spokesman declined to provide details on the terms of the
agreement.
He said the Indonesian coal would be used at two 500,000-
kilowatt (kw) power plants, one operating in Ishikawa prefecture
and another in Fukui prefecture, both in central Japan on the Sea
of Japan coast.
