Hogwan Building Collapses in Brebes, Three Dead
The old Hogwan building, located on Jalan Lapangan Asri, Bumiayu District, Brebes Regency, has collapsed. The falling building materials struck three houses situated near the structure.
According to reports, the incident occurred this morning at approximately 05:30 WIB. The collapsed building, located in RW 3, Dukuhturi Village, is a remnant of the Dutch colonial era.
At one time, the Hogwan building served as a tapioca flour factory. The factory subsequently closed and later functioned as a badminton sports hall.
Rescuers initially discovered two fatalities trapped under the rubble at the scene. The victims were two siblings whose houses were adjacent to the Hogwan building.
The evacuation process continued until officials located a third victim. The victim, identified as Kajat (85), was an elderly man found lifeless beneath the building debris.
“Alhamdulillah, another victim of the Hogwan building collapse was found under the rubble at exactly 13:45 WIB. The 85-year-old elderly man was found deceased,” said the Head of the Bumiayu BPBD Post, Budi Sudjatmiko.
The body of Kajat was immediately transported to the Bumiayu Regional General Hospital (RSUD) by the BPBD team for further handling. With the discovery of Kajat, the total number of fatalities from the Hogwan building collapse has risen to three.
