Hoax! Video of Taufik Hidayat's arrest for alleged confinement of woman in Bandung

A video showing the arrest of a man in dark clothing by several individuals has been circulating on Instagram. The figure in the video, shared on Tuesday (23/6), was linked to an alleged crime involving a man named Taufik Hidayat. Taufik is suspected of confining and abusing a woman in Bandung Regency, West Java, which reportedly lasted for three years. The Taufik Hidayat case came to light this June after the victim, identified by the initials YTR, was discovered by a boarding house keeper named Resa in a rented room in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency. The victim was found in a deplorable condition and was immediately rushed to Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS). The narrative accompanying the video on Instagram reads: ‘Video Circulating of Taufik Hidayat Allegedly Arrested for Abusing His Girlfriend’. However, is the recording truly the arrest of Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the woman’s confinement in Bandung? In fact, the clip of the man’s arrest shared on Instagram is an incident that has been circulating since September 2025, not an event from June 2026. A TikTok post explained that the man in dark clothing who was apprehended by several people had committed fraud and was arrested back in June 2025. Meanwhile, the suspect in the woman’s confinement in Bandung, Taufik Hidayat, remains a fugitive. ‘The perpetrator has not yet been arrested. We will first designate him as a suspect, then issue a DPO,’ said West Java Police Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday, as reported in an Antara news article titled ‘West Java Police to immediately issue DPO for perpetrator of woman’s confinement in Bandung’.
