Hoax! Video of Purbaya's statement on village fund corruption

A 21-second video uploaded to Facebook shows Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa seemingly delivering a statement about village fund corruption. In the video, Purbaya is quoted as saying that village heads who embezzle village funds will be prosecuted. The dialogue in the video states: ‘If a village is poor but the village head is rich, something is wrong. When village funds are embezzled, damaged roads are neglected, aid is cut, and the people are deceived. I will ensure that village heads who play with the people’s money will be dealt with. No excuses, no justification.’ The post was accompanied by a narrative: ‘When village funds are embezzled, government aid is cut, damaged roads are neglected, the people are deceived, I will ensure action is taken.’ However, investigation reveals the video is a manipulation. The original recording comes from a post on Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa’s official TikTok account in November 2025, during a working visit to Surabaya to attend the Dies Natalis of Airlangga University and several other agendas in East Java. The original video was edited and manipulated using artificial intelligence technology to make it appear as though Purbaya was making a statement about village fund corruption. ANTARA also used the AI Detector Hive Moderation tool to examine the video. The results showed that the voice in the video has a 99.2 percent probability of being AI-generated speech, while 45.3 percent of the video content was detected as AI manipulation. Thus, the claim that Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa made a statement about village fund corruption in the video is a hoax.
