Hoax! Video of Prabowo and Party Leaders Responding to MBG Protest
A post on social media platform X features a 2 minute 30 second video showing President Prabowo Subianto with several party leaders, including Golkar Party Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia, Gerindra Party Honorary Council Chairman and MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani, PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, and DPP Democrat Party member Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono. The post narrates that President Prabowo and the party leaders were responding to a student demonstration that took place on 12 June 2026. The narration in the post reads: ‘NON MBG A LONG-WINDED SPEECH ADDRESSING YESTERDAY’S STUDENT DEMO (12.06.2026) WITHOUT TALKING ABOUT MBG, WHICH IS ONE OF THE STUDENTS’ DEMANDS TO STOP THE MBG PROJECT BECAUSE IT IS USELESS AND A WASTE OF PEOPLE’S MONEY’. However, based on investigation, the narrative in the post does not match the context of the original video. The video is documentation of President Prabowo Subianto’s press conference at the State Palace on Sunday, 31 August 2025, not a statement made in response to a student demonstration on 12 June 2026. The video is identical to a KompasTV upload titled ‘President Prabowo: Party Leaders Take Firm Action Against DPR Members Making Erroneous Statements’. In that press conference, President Prabowo stated that he had received reports from party leaders regarding firm action taken against members of their factions in the DPR who were deemed to have made erroneous statements. In his speech, Prabowo said the action was taken in response to public aspirations. There was no discussion regarding a student demonstration on 12 June 2026 or demands to stop the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. Separately, regarding the evaluation of the MBG programme, Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan suggested that the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) implement the programme in stages. According to Luhut, as reported by ANTARA, a phased implementation is necessary so that obstacles in the field can be identified early, allowing for improvements before the programme’s coverage is expanded. Thus, the claim that the video shows President Prabowo and party leaders responding to a student demonstration regarding MBG is false or misleading, as it uses a video taken out of context.
