Hoax! Video of Prabowo and Party Leaders Responding to MBG Protest
A post on the social media platform X featured a video lasting 2 minutes and 30 seconds, showing President Prabowo Subianto alongside several political party chairmen, including Golkar Party Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia, Gerindra Party Honorary Board Chairman and MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani, PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, and Democratic Party Chairman Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono.
The post claimed that President Prabowo and the party chairmen were responding to student demonstrations that took place on 12 June 2026. The caption stated that despite lengthy speeches regarding the student protests, there was no mention of the MBG programme, which was one of the students’ demands for cancellation due to being considered ‘useless’ and a ‘waste of people’s money’.
However, investigations reveal that the narrative in the post does not match the original context of the video. The footage is actually documentation of a press conference held by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on Sunday, 31 August 2025, and was not a response to student protests on 12 June 2026.
The video is identical to a KompasTV report titled ‘President Prabowo: Party Chairmen Take Decisive Steps Against DPR Members Making Erroneous Statements’. During that press conference, President Prabowo stated that he had received reports from party chairmen regarding firm actions taken against members of parliamentary factions who were deemed to have made incorrect statements. He noted that these steps were taken in response to public aspirations. There was no discussion regarding student protests on 12 June 2026 or demands to halt the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.
Separately, regarding the evaluation of the MBG programme, the Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, has suggested that the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) should refine the programme’s implementation gradually. According to Luhलट, a phased implementation is necessary so that field obstacles can be identified early, allowing for improvements before the programme’s scope is expanded.
Therefore, the claim that the video shows President Prabowo and party chairmen responding to student protests regarding the MBG programme is false and misleading, as it uses video from an entirely different context.
