Hoax! Video of Iran Shooting Down US B-2 Stealth Bomber
Jakarta – A post circulating on Instagram claims that a US B-2 stealth bomber was shot down by Iran’s air defence system. The post included a narration alleging that Iran’s air defence system destroyed a B-2 bomber belonging to the United States during military operations in the Middle East region.
The narrative in the post stated: “America’s honour is destroyed now, Iran brought down the B-2 stealth bomber that has been praised all this time.”
However, is the video of the US B-2 stealth bomber being shot down by Iran authentic?
Verification:
Based on fact-checking research, no official statement from the US government or credible media reports indicate that a US B-2 stealth bomber has been shot down by Iran.
Verification using artificial intelligence detection tools, specifically the Hive Moderation system, demonstrated that the circulating video has a 99.4 per cent probability of being artificial intelligence-generated content.
For context, reports indicate that the United States has indeed increased military preparedness in the Middle East region, including deploying B-2 stealth bombers. This step was taken amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.
The US government has also strengthened its military presence in the region by deploying various assets, including F-35, F/A-18 and F-15E fighter jets, as well as aircraft carriers and warships in several strategically important waters. This measure is part of efforts to strengthen defence and military readiness, not a report of a B-2 bomber being shot down.
Accordingly, the video claiming to show a US B-2 stealth bomber shot down by Iran is artificial intelligence-generated content and does not reflect a real event.
