Hoax! Religious Affairs Minister Asks Citizens to Have Government Manage Sacrificial Offerings Instead of Slaughtering Themselves
Jakarta (ANTARA/JACX) – A post on the Facebook social media platform claims that Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar has asked the public who wish to perform qurban to hand over its management to the government, rather than slaughtering the animals themselves. The post is accompanied by a narrative suggesting that the public should deposit funds for aqiqah or qurban to government institutions instead of independently slaughtering animals. The following is the narrative in that post: “The Minister of Religious Affairs suggests that the public deposit AQIKAH or QURBAN funds to BAZNAS or have them managed by the government rather than the hassle of slaughtering goats themselves.” However, is this statement true? Explanation: Based on tracing, no information or official statements from the government or credible media have been found stating that Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar has asked the public to hand over qurban management to the government and not to slaughter themselves. In fact, the Ministry of Religious Affairs through its official Instagram account has affirmed that the narrative claiming the public must not slaughter sacrificial animals and replace them with money is a hoax. The Ministry of Religious Affairs also emphasised that there has never been any such policy. In addition, the image used in the post is a photo taken from an article titled “Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar Records Hat-Trick of Achievements in the First 100 Days of the Red and White Cabinet” published on 25 January 2025, and it is unrelated to the circulating narrative. The Ministry of Religious Affairs also urged the public to always verify received information by accessing official sources, such as the Kemenag.go.id website. Thus, the claim that the Minister of Religious Affairs has asked the public to hand over qurban management to the government is untrue information or a hoax.
