Jakarta (ANTARA/JACX) — A video posted on Facebook narrates that Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa urged elderly citizens not to miss the clip, as he was purportedly offering special assistance during Ramadan.

The post also included a telephone number and encouraged the public to contact a WhatsApp account to obtain information about the alleged elderly assistance programme.

However, is it true that Purbaya offered special assistance to the elderly during Ramadan?

Explanation:

Based on an investigation, the circulating video was found to be identical to footage published by Kumparan on 29 January, in which Purbaya spoke about his optimism that the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) would strengthen to reach the 10,000 level by the end of 2026.

At the time, Purbaya assessed that the decline in the IHSG was only temporary, resulting from market reactions to MSCI’s assessment of the Indonesia Stock Exchange.

Furthermore, analysis using the AI Detector Hive Moderation tool showed the video had a 99.1 per cent probability of being an AI-based manipulation.

Accordingly, the narrative claiming Purbaya offered special assistance to the elderly during Ramadan is the result of editing and does not correspond to his original statement.
