Hoax: Photo of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka Visiting Ali Khamenei in Iran

Jakarta – A social media post on Facebook displayed a photo claiming to show Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka visiting Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In the image, Gibran appeared to be in a military barracks meeting with Khamenei and Iranian military personnel. The post claimed that Gibran had visited Iran directly to meet with the country’s supreme leader.

The post’s narrative stated: “Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka once visited Iranian leader Ali Khamenei at Iran’s military barracks to discuss the delivery of combat equipment to Indonesia.”

However, had Gibran actually visited Ali Khamenei in Iran?

Based on investigation, no credible media reporting or official government statement was found indicating that Gibran Rakabuming Raka had visited Iran or met directly with Ali Khamenei.

Examination using AI detection tool Hive Moderation showed that the image had a 99.9 per cent probability of being artificially generated imagery.

Furthermore, there were no diplomatic travel records showing that Gibran had conducted an official visit to Iran since taking office as Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Therefore, the claim that Gibran visited Ali Khamenei in Iran is false information or a hoax.
