Hoax! Photo of Bulgarian National Team Arrival in Indonesia on 20 February

A Facebook post narrated that Bulgaria’s national team had arrived early in Indonesia on 20 February 2026, ahead of the FIFA Series 2026 match at the Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK).

The post featured several men wearing green-red jackets claimed to be Bulgaria’s squad, alongside a figure identified as Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir greeting them. The post’s narrative read: “BULGARIAN SQUAD ARRIVES IN INDONESIA EARLIER – SOUTHEAST ASIAN MEDIA ABUZZ WITH SPOTLIGHT.”

However, investigation revealed no official information confirming Bulgaria’s national team arrival in Indonesia on that date.

The circulating photograph was identical to images from articles titled “Argentina National Team Arrives in Jakarta Friday Evening 16 June, Welcomed by PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir” and “Without Lionel Messi, Here is Argentina’s Squad List to Face Indonesia’s National Team.” The photo caption confirmed it documented Argentina’s national team arrival in Jakarta in June 2023 during a FIFA Matchday fixture against Indonesia’s national team.

In the official post at that time, Argentina’s squad was indeed welcomed by PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir. The official schedule for Indonesia’s national team in the FIFA Series 2026 next month is available through official PSSI channels.

Therefore, the narrative claiming Bulgaria’s national team had arrived in Indonesia is the result of digital manipulation, whilst the original photograph documents Argentina’s national team arrival.
