Hoax! Palace to take over Jokowi's alleged fake diploma case

A Facebook post featured an image of President Prabowo Subianto, 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), and former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD holding a diploma bearing the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) logo. The image was labelled breaking news and accompanied by a narrative that appeared to quote President Prabowo saying he was not afraid of Jokowi. The post also claimed the Palace would soon take over the handling of the alleged fake diploma case. The narrative in the post read: ‘PALACE TO SOON TAKE OVER DIPLOMA CASE. PRABOWO: I AM NOT AFRAID OF JOKOWI. I WILL EXPOSE ALL LIES TO THE PUBLIC.’ However, based on investigation, no official statement was found from President Prabowo, the Presidential Palace, or the government indicating they would take over the handling of the alleged fake diploma case. There was also no statement from President Prabowo saying, ‘I am not afraid of Jokowi’ as claimed in the post. The latest developments regarding the alleged defamation and slander case concerning the authenticity of Jokowi’s diploma show that the legal process remains with law enforcement officials in accordance with applicable mechanisms. The South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office decided not to detain Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma (Dr Tifa), who are suspects in the case. Their legal counsel, Refly Harun, stated that the request for a suspension of detention was accepted, so both clients were not detained and will follow the trial process in accordance with legal provisions. Thus, the claim that the Palace will take over the case of Jokowi’s alleged diploma and that President Prabowo stated he would expose Jokowi’s lies is baseless information.
