Hoax: New banknote featuring President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran

A post on Instagram claimed that Bank Indonesia will issue a new Rp18,000 banknote featuring President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The post displayed an image of a greenish-blue note bearing the signatures of Governor Perry Warjiyo and Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, along with logos for the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG) and the Red and White Village Cooperatives. The accompanying text read: “Is this real, don’t let it end up like the Rp75,000 note that didn’t sell…”

However, verification found no official information or announcement from the government or Bank Indonesia regarding the issuance of an Rp18,000 banknote featuring Prabowo and Gibran. According to Bank Indonesia, the rupiah notes currently in legal circulation are the 2022 emission series, comprising denominations of Rp100,000, Rp50,000, Rp20,000, Rp10,000, Rp5,000, Rp2,000, and Rp1,000. There is no Rp18,000 denomination as depicted in the post. Furthermore, the design shown does not match the official characteristics of rupiah notes issued by Bank Indonesia. No official announcement has been made regarding new currency bearing the images of Prabowo, Gibran, the MBG logo, or the Red and White Village Cooperatives. Therefore, the claim is false and classified as a hoax.
