Hoax! Human Rights Minister Pigai's alleged statement on BGN chief's arrest is false
Jakarta (ANTARA/JACX) – A post on Facebook claimed that Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai stated the arrest of former National Nutrition Agency (BGN) chief Dadan Hindayana without clear evidence constituted a human rights violation. The post also claimed Pigai would take firm action to support Dadan’s release, as the arrest allegedly did not meet legal standards. However, is it true that Pigai called the former BGN chief’s arrest a human rights violation? Based on investigation, no official statement from the government or credible media was found indicating Natalius Pigai ever described the arrest as a human rights violation. The Ministry of Human Rights confirmed that circulating information on social media in the minister’s name regarding alleged corruption at BGN is false, or a hoax. The ministry also stated that the narrative implying an official statement by the Human Rights Minister was never delivered by Natalius Pigai nor issued by the ministry. ‘I have never made a statement as circulated in those posts. That information is a hoax,’ Pigai said, quoted from ANTARA. Pigai also urged the public not to trust or disseminate information that lacks clear sources and cannot be verified. Claim: Pigai said the BGN chief’s arrest is a human rights violation. Rating: Hoax.
