Hoax! Gus Yahya Calls on the Public to Condemn Iran
Jakarta (ANTARA/JACX) – A post on the social media platform TikTok claims that the General Chairman of PBNU, KH Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya), together with the United States Ambassador, is calling on Indonesian society to condemn Iran’s actions in the Middle East conflict. The post also states that the war constitutes a violation of human rights (HAM). The narrative in the post reads: “Gus Yahya, accompanied by the US Ambassador, asks Indonesian society to condemn Iran’s actions; stop the war because it clearly violates HAM.” However, is it true that Gus Yahya and the US Ambassador are calling on the Indonesian public to condemn Iran? Explanation: Based on investigations, no official statements or reports from credible media have been found mentioning such a call. PBNU instead emphasises the importance of de-escalating the conflict and encourages peace efforts in the region. Additionally, the image in the post is identical to official Nahdlatul Ulama coverage titled “Meeting the US Ambassador, Gus Yahya Calls for US-Iran Dialogue to Stop the War in the Middle East,” published on 1 April 2026. In its original context, Gus Yahya promoted dialogue between the United States and Iran to ease tensions, rather than calling on Indonesian society to condemn Iran. Therefore, the claim that Gus Yahya and the US Ambassador are calling on Indonesian society to condemn Iran is untrue information or a hoax.
