Hoax! Government sets maximum Pertalite purchase limit of Rp50,000 per transaction

A Facebook post has claimed that the government has implemented a restriction on purchasing subsidised Pertalite fuel, setting a maximum limit of Rp50,000 per transaction. The post stated the policy was introduced to ensure equitable distribution of subsidised fuel, prevent hoarding, and reduce queues at petrol stations. A circulating poster also featured a photo of a motorist refuelling alongside the text “Pertalite Purchase Restriction Maximum Rp50,000 per Transaction”. The narrative gained traction after the price of non-subsidised Pertamax fuel rose to Rp16,250 per litre on 10 June 2026. The post included a caption reading: “Heboh! Pembatasan Pertalite Rp50 Ribu Mulai Diterapkan, Pengendara Motor Langsung Jadi Sorotan. Kebijakan pembatasan pembelian BBM subsidi kini mulai diberlakukan di sejumlah daerah dengan batas maksimal pengisian Pertalite Rp50 ribu untuk motor per transaksi. Pemerintah menyebut aturan ini dibuat agar distribusi BBM lebih merata, mencegah penimbunan, dan mengurangi antrean panjang di SPBU. Namun di lapangan, kebijakan tersebut memicu beragam reaksi, terutama dari pekerja harian dan driver ojek online yang khawatir biaya operasional mereka ikut terdampak. Menurut kalian, aturan ini solusi yang tepat atau justru bikin masyarakat makin sulit? Tulis pendapatmu dan bagikan ke teman-temanmu!” However, no official information or policy from the government has been found that establishes a Rp50,000 limit on Pertalite purchases. PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has not announced any such regulation. The company previously refuted similar misinformation circulating on social media regarding restrictions on Pertalite usage based on vehicle brand or engine capacity. Corporate Secretary Roberth MV Dumatubun emphasised that there is no plan or directive from the government to restrict Pertalite purchases based on specific vehicle categories. He explained that Pertamina solely carries out energy distribution assignments in accordance with government regulations. He confirmed that Pertalite distribution is proceeding normally and that no new policy regarding a Rp50,000 purchase limit exists. Pertamina has urged the public to verify any information through official government, regulatory, or company channels before believing or sharing it. The claim that the government has set a maximum Pertalite purchase limit of Rp50,000 per transaction is therefore baseless and categorised as a hoax.
