Hoax: Febrie Adriansyah Has Been Declared Free and Innocent
Jakarta (ANTARA/JACX) – A video posted on Facebook claims that former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah has been declared free and innocent in a case involving alleged extortion and money laundering (TPPU).
One video shows a courtroom with the captions “Febrie Adriansyah finally proven innocent” and “Ready to tackle even bigger cases”. Another post also claims that Febrie has been acquitted following new findings.
But is it true that Febrie Adriansyah has been declared free and innocent?
Explanation:
The claim is false. Febrie remains a defendant in the alleged extortion and money-laundering case, and the panel of judges has not yet delivered a verdict.
At the hearing to read out the indictment on Wednesday (7 October 2026), prosecutors charged Febrie with extorting businessman Tan Kian for S$5 million, or around Rp55 billion, in connection with the handling of an alleged corruption case at PT Asuransi Jiwasraya. Prosecutors also charged him with money laundering involving around Rp354.62 billion between 2020 and 2026.
At the next hearing, on Wednesday (14 October 2026), Febrie filed an objection to the indictment. ANTARA reported that he asked the panel of judges to annul the indictment and order his release from detention.
The judges have yet to consider that request. Filing an objection is a defendant’s right to challenge the indictment; it is not a ruling that the defendant has been acquitted or found innocent.
Anang Supriatna, head of the Attorney General’s Office Legal Information Centre, said prosecutors were confident that the indictment against Febrie had been properly prepared. The decision to accept or reject the objection rests with the panel of judges.
Therefore, the claim that Febrie Adriansyah has been declared free and innocent is false.
Febrie’s filing of an objection does not mean he has been released, as the trial is ongoing and the judges have not yet delivered a verdict in the case.
