Hoax! Documentation of Iranian missile attack on Riyadh airbase

Jakarta – A video uploaded to Facebook shows footage of a large explosion in an area, with accompanying text claiming it documents an Iranian attack on an airbase in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The video depicts flames and thick smoke, which the post attributes to an Iranian military strike against a United States military base in Saudi Arabia.

However, fact-checkers have verified whether this video actually documents an Iranian attack on Riyadh airbase.

Through reverse image search using Google Lens, researchers traced the video to its original source on the Rassd Network YouTube channel. The original video is titled “Major fire following Israeli strike on Al-Hudaydah Port in Yemen” and was uploaded on 21 July 2024.

The authentic footage shows a major fire that occurred at Al-Hudaydah port in Yemen following an Israeli strike on 21 July 2024. The incident resulted in at least three deaths and 87 injuries, with many suffering burn wounds.

The events depicted in the video have no connection to an Iranian attack on a Riyadh airbase in Saudi Arabia, as claimed in the social media post. Therefore, the claim that the video documents an Iranian missile strike on Riyadh airbase constitutes false and misleading information.
