Hoax: Constitutional Court and DPR officially halt free nutritious meal programme

A Facebook post has falsely claimed that the Constitutional Court (MK) and the House of Representatives (DPR) have officially halted the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. The post featured a breaking news graphic accompanied by a narrative suggesting President Prabowo Subianto was willing to resign if the MBG programme proved to be a failure. However, verification reveals no official statement from either the MK or the DPR confirming the programme’s termination. The MK is currently examining a judicial review petition against Law Number 17 of 2025 concerning the 2026 State Budget, which relates to the MBG budget allocation, and no ruling has yet been made to stop the programme. MK Chief Justice Suhartoyo explained that the trial is ongoing and is targeted for completion by July 2026, with the court merely regulating technical examination procedures. Conversely, the DPR has voiced support for the programme’s continuation. Deputy Speaker Saan Mustopa urged the National Nutrition Agency to maximise the absorption of produce from farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises to support the MBG programme. Furthermore, Deputy Chairman of Commission II Bahtra Banong stated the programme could potentially create around 1.3 million jobs, citing a survey indicating 55.5 per cent of respondents support the initiative. No statement from President Prabowo regarding a willingness to resign over the programme’s failure was found in official sources. The claim that the MK and DPR have officially stopped the MBG programme is therefore false.
