Hoax! Central Java Governor Allegedly Threatened to Delete and Block Vehicle Data of Tax Non-Payers

Jakarta (ANTARA/JACX) — A Facebook post has circulated a narrative falsely suggesting that Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi stated that vehicles belonging to members of the public who fail to pay their taxes would be blocked and have their data deleted, effectively rendering them unregistered and unusable.

The post was accompanied by provocative text attacking the regional government.

The narrative in the post read: “Central Java Governor: If you don’t pay taxes, we will block and delete the data. Your motorcycle becomes unregistered and cannot be used.”

However, is it true that the Central Java Governor said vehicle data would be deleted and blocked for non-payment of taxes?

Explanation:

Based on investigation, no official statement was found from the Central Java Governor claiming that vehicle data would be deleted or blocked due to non-payment of taxes.

The photograph used in the post was identical to one from a Kompas Instagram post titled “Central Java Provincial Government Relocates 900 Homes of Land Movement Victims in Tegal to Purbalingga.”

In the original post, Ahmad Luthfi was discussing the relocation of hundreds of homes affected by land movement disasters and urging Central Java residents to remain vigilant against potential disasters caused by heavy rainfall.

Regarding the vehicle tax issue, the Central Java Provincial Government has in fact announced plans for a relaxation measure in the form of a 5 per cent Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) discount through the end of 2026, as reported by ANTARA.

The narrative claiming the governor threatened to delete vehicle data is therefore the result of manipulation and has no factual basis.
