Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW) supports the socialisation and preparation activities for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage commencing earlier. The 2027 Hajj will be the second year of implementation by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj).

HNW assessed that various evaluations, inputs, and refinements from both the House of Representatives (DPR) and the wider public need to be implemented from the outset, so that the quality of Hajj management and services for prospective pilgrims continues to improve.

This was conveyed by HNW during a Hajj Management Socialisation event in South Jakarta, which was also attended by DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) member Zahrina Nurbaiti and Acting Head of the Hajj and Umrah Division for the DKI Jakarta Ministry of Religious Affairs Regional Office, Agus Husein.

"Commission VIII of the DPR RI has provided support for the 2027 Hajj through the approval of the 2026 Hajj evaluation results and the approval of the BPIH down payment requirement of approximately Rp4 trillion submitted by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for the initial payment of services for pilgrims in Armuzna (Arafah, Muzdalifah and Mina) in accordance with the provisions of the Saudi Arabian authorities," HNW stated on Monday.

"Therefore, preparations for the 2027 Hajj should also begin earlier so that any issues can be anticipated from the start and services to pilgrims can be improved, including through socialisation of the Hajj management to the wider community, so they understand and can provide input for better Hajj management that fulfils the principle of meaningful participation," he added.

HNW explained that Saudi Arabia’s current policy is to immediately open preparations for the upcoming Hajj season once the current year’s Hajj concludes. Consequently, input obtained from the evaluation by Commission VIII of the DPR, stakeholders, prospective pilgrims, Hajj alumni, and the wider community is important and must be promptly synchronised with the policy plans for the 2027 Hajj.

"The purpose of this socialisation, besides conveying information regarding the laws and practices of Hajj management, is also to facilitate public participation in providing criticism and suggestions as material for improving policies and practices for the next year’s Hajj. It also aims to motivate the community to help pilgrims maintain their mabrur Hajj after they return from the pilgrimage and rejoin society," HNW explained.

The PKS faction DPR member also reminded that the establishment of the Ministry of Hajj is an effort to present better and more professional Hajj governance. PKS, HNW said, together with President Prabowo Subianto during the 2014 presidential election, had proposed separating Hajj management from the Ministry of Religious Affairs by forming a Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, as part of a commitment to improving the management of the Hajj pilgrimage.

Furthermore, he expressed gratitude that a state institution has now been formed, not merely a Hajj Management ‘Agency’ as stipulated in Presidential Regulation No. 154 of 2024, but a Ministry of Hajj and Umrah Management in accordance with Law No. 14 of 2025, followed by President Prabowo issuing Presidential Regulation No. 92 of 2025 on the establishment of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

"Alhamdulillah, it has been proven that the first Hajj organised by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in 2026 ran better than the previous year, with various service improvements and without a repeat of the 2025 Hajj cases such as issues with syarikah and Nusuk cards," HNW continued.

Therefore, he stressed that the second year of Hajj management by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah should be even better. With the positive experience and efforts to prepare for the Hajj from the start, the management should indeed improve.

"So that the 2027 pilgrims can be calmer and more focused in performing their Hajj, thereby achieving a mabrur Hajj and having their prayers answered, including prayers for Indonesia to become a baldatun thayyibatun wa Rabbun Ghafur," HNW concluded.
