HMI irked by Salahuddin, Siswono absence

JAKARTA: Executives of the Muslim Student Association (HMI)
issued a "motion of no confidence" in vice presidential
candidates Salahuddin Wahid and Siswono Yudohusodo on Saturday.

Hasanuddin, the chairman of the organization, said that the
motion was issued after both failed to attend a debate organized
by the HMI in collaboration with the Jakarta General Elections
Commission (KPUD) and Lativi television, even though both
candidates had previously promised to attend. "Even at the
campaign stage, they are already breaking their promises," said
Hasanuddin.

Salahuddin canceled his participation in the debate by sending
a text message to the organizers, while Siswono did not give any
notification of his absence.

The only vice presidential candidate to turn up for the event
was Jusuf Kalla. -- Antara
