HMI congress

The Islamic Students Association (HMI) is holding its 12th
congress in Surabaya, East Java. The congress was officially
opened by President Soeharto. This congress is extraordinary
because it is the first congress of its kind to be opened by the
President.

Hopefully the congress will be able to produce positive
results and the HMI will play a more concrete role in the future.
No competent intellectuals have appeared during the last decade,
and the association has not performed any remarkable activities
in society.

HMI can use this congress to gather the momentum with which to
make the organization more solid and capable of playing a
significant role which benefits the nation.
