HKBP Nommensen University to Form Fact-Finding Team Regarding Allegations of Sexual Harassment
The Rector of HKBP Nommensen University in Pematangsiantar, Prof. Muktar B. Panjaitan, stated that the university will immediately form a Fact-Finding Team to conduct a thorough investigation into the reported allegations of sexual harassment. The report was made by the victim’s family to the university leadership.
“As a form of institutional responsibility and commitment to protecting the academic community, on February 21, 2026, the University will immediately form a Fact-Finding Team to conduct a thorough, objective, and independent investigation. All evidence and documents related to the report have been collected and secured according to procedure,” said Muktar in a press release received on Thursday (February 26).
The Fact-Finding Team, according to Muktar, has also conducted a direct review of the scene to ensure the accuracy of the information and obtain relevant information from various parties.
Furthermore, on February 23, 2026, in order to maintain the integrity of the examination process and avoid potential conflicts of interest, the academic responsibilities of the lecturer in question have also been transferred to another lecturer in the same study program, until the fact-gathering and investigation process is completed.
Rector Muktar emphasized that sexual harassment is an act that violates academic norms, ethics, and the law. And every report will be handled seriously, professionally, and without tolerance for violations. “No party is immune from legal processes or academic sanctions,” he added.
To the victims or parties who know about the alleged sexual harassment, he advised them not to hesitate to report through the official campus mechanism or law enforcement officials. “To all members of the academic community, maintain a conducive situation and respect the ongoing investigation process,” he said.
Muktar also ensured the confidentiality of the identity of the victims and witnesses, as well as a fair, objective, and transparent examination process, and providing protection to victims from all forms of intimidation or pressure.
He also emphasized that they will provide strict sanctions in accordance with laws and regulations and internal university regulations if found guilty. The academic community of HKBP Nommensen University Pematangsiantar is committed to creating a safe, dignified, and free learning environment from all forms of sexual violence.
“We will not tolerate actions that violate human values and academic integrity. Further developments will be communicated to the public after the Fact-Finding Team completes its task and produces an official report,” said Prof. Muktar. (H-1)
