HK squashes competition
JAKARTA (JP): An all-Hong Kong showdown pitting Abdul Faheem Khan against Jackie Lee will mark the men's final in the East Asian Squash Championships today.
Top seed and world number 36 Faheem Khan hardly broke a sweat in his straight-set 9-0, 9-5, 9-1 tromping of teammate Wong Wai Hung in yesterday's semifinal here.
Lee faced stiffer competition in the other semifinal, squandering a commanding two-set lead before beating Malaysian veteran Tan Tian Huat 9-6, 9-3, 2-9, 5-9, 9-2.
Hong Kong can also take the women's title with Dawn Olsen of Hong Kong facing Japanese newcomer Yuko Kimura in today's final.
Olsen, in a first set semifinals thriller against Elizabeth Wilcox of the Philippines, lost 9-10 before walking to a 9-1, 9- 1, 9-3 win. Kimura made short work of Christina Bonoan, also of the Philippines, 9-2, 10-8, 9-0.
The team events will start tomorrow and end on Sunday. (arf)
