HONG KONG (AFP): The Hong Kong and Indonesian governments Friday signed an air services agreement to straddle the territory's handover to Chinese rule on July 1.
The agreement was signed by Hong Kong Secretary for Economic Services, Stephen Ip, and Indonesian Consul-General Lili Sobari.
Ip noted the strong economic and tourism links between Hong Kong and Indonesia and said he hoped to see the close aviation links between Hong Kong and Indonesia continue to grow in the years ahead.
Cathay Pacific currently operates 19 return services a week to Indonesia. Garuda Indonesia operates 17 return services per week to Hong Kong. The two airlines together carried a total of 560,000 passengers in 1996.
