Beirut — The Lebanon-based Hizbullah has warned residents of Kiryat Shmona, in northern Israel, to immediately evacuate to the south. The town lies only a few kilometres from the Lebanon border. ‘Warning! All residents of Kiryat Shmona are urged to evacuate immediately. Move south,’ Hizbullah said in a statement on Saturday (7 March 2026), cited by Al Arabiya.

Hizbullah did not specify what action it would take against Kiryat Shmona. The town is known to lie very close to the Lebanon–Israel border.

On Monday (2 March 2026) Hizbullah fired rockets and launched drone strikes into Israeli territory. The attack came two days after Israel, together with the United States, began a joint offensive against Iran. The joint US–Israel operation was reportedly aimed at Iran’s leadership and was reported to have killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, heightening tensions in the region.

In response to Hizbullah’s assault, Israel bombarded southern and eastern Lebanon, and areas near Beirut. Israel also threatened to make Lebanon ‘pay a very heavy price’ if the Lebanese government fails to control Hizbullah. ‘If the choice is between protecting civilians and our soldiers or protecting the country of Lebanon, we will choose to protect our civilians and our soldiers. The Government of Lebanon and Lebanon will pay a very heavy price,’ Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said in a statement addressed to President of Lebanon, General Joseph Aoun, on Saturday.
