Hizbullah Continues Fight Against Israeli Occupation, IDF Captain Killed
Lebanese armed group Hizbullah stated that its fighters launched several attacks on Israeli forces inside Lebanese territory on Thursday. The group’s fighters targeted multiple Israeli military positions, principally focusing on troop concentrations and vehicles in several towns in southern Lebanon, including Yohmor al-Shaqif, Rashaf, al-Qantara and Khiam. The statement noted that Israeli troop gatherings were repeatedly attacked using rocket strikes and squadrons of attack drones. The area around Lebanon’s historic Beaufort Castle emerged as a major flashpoint, where Hizbullah claimed to have fired successive artillery shells, massive rocket barrages and drone strikes on an Israeli command post and troop concentrations, in addition to destroying several Israeli Merkava tanks. The Times of Israel reported that an IDF officer was killed by a Hizbullah anti-tank missile attack in southern Lebanon on Thursday. The military identified the slain officer as a captain from the 75th Battalion of the 7th Armoured Brigade, from Mishmar HaShiv’a. Around 4 p.m., a Hizbullah operative fired an anti-tank missile at an Israeli tank operating north of the Litani River, killing the captain. Hizbullah leader Naim Qassem rejected the ceasefire deal agreed by Lebanon and Israel. Qassem asserted that as long as Israeli aggression continues, Hizbullah will continue to confront it. In a joint statement on Thursday (4/6/2026), Lebanon, the United States and Israel announced that a ceasefire had been reached. Its implementation is based on a complete cessation of Hizbullah fire and the withdrawal of all Hizbullah members from the area south of the Litani River. The river flows approximately 30 kilometres north of the Israel-Lebanon border. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said the US would determine the timing and mechanisms for implementing the ceasefire. It could begin within 24 hours of receiving approval.
