Businessman Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores—whose name includes the names of two notorious European dictators—has been elected mayor of a remote district in Peru’s Andes. The 45-year-old won the mayoral election in Queropalca, an administrative district in the Huánuco region of central Peru.

According to AFP on Sunday (11 October 2026), Flores will take office on 1 January 2027. The candidate from the left-wing Ahora Nación party received 229 of the 663 votes cast in the election on 4 October, according to Peru’s National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE).

His nearest rival, far-right candidate Gaspar Osorio, received 204 votes. Flores, who runs a freight transport business, was previously a member of Popular Force—the party backing right-wing Peruvian politician Keiko Fujimori—until 2025, according to electoral authorities.

Although his name is identical to that of Adolf Hitler, the Nazi German dictator during the Second World War, several candidates with that name have won elections in Peru.

In 2021, Peru elected a doctor named Hitler Saavedra Casternoque to parliament, representing the centrist Somos Perú party. In 2018, Hitler Alba Sanchez was elected mayor of the Andean district of Yungar; during his campaign, he described himself as “the good Hitler”.
