Hit-and-run victim hospitalized

JAKARTA (JP): A 16-year-old student fell victim to a hit-and-
run accident on Jl. Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, on Sunday night.

The victim, identified as Hifzi Basah, sustained severe leg
injuries after being hit by a speeding sedan at about 9:30 p.m.,
Antara reported.

Hifzi, a resident of Jl. Pedurenan Mesjid III in Karet
Kuningan district, was rushed to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General
Hospital for medical treatment.

"One of his legs was broken," Affendi, an employee of the
hospital's intensive care unit, said.

Affendi said that besides Hifzi, other traffic accident
victims admitted to the intensive care unit on Sunday included
Sarengat who was involved in a crash in the Mangga Besar area in
West Jakarta; Abdul Pohar and Yohanes Paulus Rindu who were in an
accident on Jl. Pramuka in Central Jakarta.

"An average of 20 traffic accident victims are admitted to the
hospital every day," Affendi said. (hhr)
