Hit and run motorist mobbed

JAKARTA (JP): A 35-year-old resident of Grogol, West Jakarta,
was mobbed to death on Monday morning by Curug residents in
Tangerang after the victim hit a pedestrian at the Binong Permai
housing complex, according to a police report.

The report released to the press on Tuesday revealed that
Triono of Wijaya Kusuma housing complex struck the pedestrian
(who possessed no identification card) at about 11 a.m. and
refused to stop to give a hand to the injured man.

The report, however, did not say whether Triono, driving a
Honda Accord sedan, had intended to hit the man.

Several local people, who witnessed the accident, ran after
the motorist, who was alone, and violently beat him, not far from
the accident site, it said.

"He was sent to the Tangerang General Hospital for emergency
treatment but died later," it added. (jaw)
