History reading in five Sundanese dialects marks West Java anniversary
A reading of the history of the founding of West Java Province in five Sundanese dialects marked the celebration of the province’s 81st anniversary at a plenary session held in the grounds of Gedung Sate-Gasibu (Pasanggrahan Pancarasa) in Bandung on Wednesday.
The history of West Java Province was read in full using various dialects, namely Western Sundanese by Suyedi, Betawi Sundanese by Abdul Khoir, Cirebon Sundanese by Dedi Setiawan, Dermayu Sundanese by Supalikasin, and Priangan Sundanese by Godi Suwarna.
The history of the founding of West Java Province was read from the period of the Japanese occupation, preparations for independence, the proclamation of 17 August 1945, the establishment of West Java Province two days later, and its development up to the present day, along with the hopes expressed.
“Furthermore, we convey the highest respect for the struggles of our predecessors who fought for West Java,” said Buky.
Buky explained that, based on Regional Regulation Number 26 of 2010 concerning the Anniversary of West Java Province, 19 August 1945 was designated as the anniversary of West Java Province.
This is rooted in the history of the formation of eight provinces in Indonesia by the Preparatory Committee for Indonesian Independence, or PPKI, namely West Java, Central Java, East Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and the Lesser Sunda Islands.
Based on Article 3, letters A, B and C of Regional Regulation Number 26 of 2010, the purpose and objective of designating the anniversary of West Java Province is recognition of and appreciation for the regional government.
It is also a means of fostering a sense of unity and regional pride while strengthening the love and inner bond of the people, political institutions, socio-religious and cultural bodies, financial and economic institutions, and the state and regional administration towards the existence of West Java as an autonomous region.
“It is a means of demonstrating the identity of the people of West Java, who possess quality, comparative and competitive advantages that can advance the growth and development of regional development,” he said.
On that occasion, Buky also invited all parties, including the West Java Provincial Government, to work together to build a better West Java in the future.
