History Museum to present awards

JAKARTA: Jakarta Historical Museum, better known as Fatahillah Museum, will present awards to some institutions, individuals and media on Oct. 15 who have contributed significantly to the museum.

Former Jakarta Governor Ali Sadikin and a scholar of history Adolf Heuken are among the 19 individuals to receive the awards.

"For the last five years, the museum has been improved thanks to support from many individuals, institutions and the media," the museum's director Tinia Budiarti said on Thursday.

She praised Ali Sadikin for turning the building into a museum as it was formerly used as a district military command office.

The awards ceremony will start at around 7 p.m. at the museum and deputy governor Fauzi Bowo is expected to present the awards.

State-owned Bank Mandiri and several museums in the Netherlands and Portugal will also be awarded for their support.

The Jakarta Post will also receive an award for its contribution. -- JP
