Historical buildings in Jakarta

I most welcome the Jakarta administration's special attention
to the preservation of old and historical buildings in the
capital city.

For the past few years, Jakartans have been extremely saddened
to see old buildings inexorably replaced by shopping centers,
office towers and malls.

In downtown Jakarta too, nearly all historic buildings have
been bulldozed. Only a few have been spared to be preserved as
part of the city's historical heritage.

From now on, the Jakarta administration should impose on
developers and investors not to build arbitrarily. The Bank
Tabungan Negara tower in the Harmoni area is a good example of a
modern high-rise, while the old building in front has been left
intact.

The issuance of a license for each historical building in West
Jakarta is commendable because it is a serious endeavor toward
maintaining the buildings in their original state.
