Historical buildings attracts tourists

Conserving historical buildings for tourism has recently been
revived abroad. We therefore plead with government to conserve
Jakarta's historical buildings, as well as those of other cities.

Do not demolish ancient buildings for the sake of developing
shopping centers. This is tantamount to wiping out history and
the works of our forefathers.

If development should involve historical locations, spare at
least these old buildings, since newer constructions are
eventually demolished to keep up with the times and more modern
building styles.

The majority of modern buildings are not made to last long,
and after a time most of them disintegrate into filthy, old-
fashioned structures, which are eventually razed and replaced by
more modern buildings.

We welcome the Jakarta administration's special attention to
historical buildings in anticipation of tourism development,
which, is expected to raise state income.
